4X CUSTOM 666 SIDE CHAIR 1946-51

Unique set of Jens Risom 666 Series side chairs, hand-customised by Florence Knoll for a private client. These chairs have the frame of the webbed seat version of the 666 side chair, but with the addition of integrated webbing to the backrest. Between 1942 and 1946, Risom designed 15 different pieces, for the 600 Series, commissioned by Knoll. Working within the material shortages and constraints of wartime America, he developed his simple chair and table designs, making use of scraps of wood and rejected nylon straps from parachute production. These chairs are dated between 1946 and 1951, when Florence Knoll Bassett was first actively working at Knoll. It was during this time that Florence was known to customize products for clients at the production phase. The chairs still retain their original nylon straps and Knoll Associates Label.
