A wonderful example of a late 19th Century lacquered bobbin chair, coined by Liberty & Co as the "Norfolk Chair" which featured in their Christmas campaign in 1890 priced at 10/6. This example of the Bobbin Chair has been modestly restored, and polished with a new seat in Cordon French Straw Wrapped Rush. English made, circa 1890.

Bobbin furniture dates back to the late 17th Century, but had a second wave in the 19th Century, when it was reintroduced by Ernest Gimson and slightly later by William Morris with the Sussex chair. The revived style became a common feature of the Arts & Craft furniture. This concept was later taken on by Liberty & Co. in the 1880s resulting in this simple corner chair design.
